The source text of this translation practice report is taken from chapters 9 and 10 of The Routledge Companion to Literature and Science,an academic text in humanities. It contains literary texts, literary criticism, and scientific facts, with the dual attributes of literature and science. The themes of Chapter 9 and Chapter 10 are ecology and evolution and written by Stacy Alaimo and Amigoni respectively. The authors elaborate the forms of ecology and evolution in literature by arguments. They believe that literature and science are not isolated but mutually promoted.Based on the CEA framework proposed by Professor Li Changshuan(2020),this report analyzes the problems encountered in the process of translation from three aspects: comprehension, expression and adaptation. At the lexical level, the source text contains not only a number of names of literary works, names of authors, and scientific terms, but also some special words that cannot be translated according to their literal meaning. At the syntactic level, the text, which contains complex and long sentences,is highly academic. There are many passive sentences and sentences with dashes.Through the analysis of the examples, the translator concludes that semantic extensions of concepts can be used to convey the true meaning of the words which cannot be directly understood according to the literal meaning; For the phenomena of redundant or missing information, omission or amplification can be adopted to make the meaning of the translation clearer or more concise; For the translation of book names, translator should determine the translation by consulting relevant background knowledge and combining context; For the passive sentence,it can be treated as explicit passive sentences and semi-implicit passive sentences in Chinese according to the specific context; For the sentences with dashes, the structure of the sentences can be adjusted according to the role of dashes in the text to ensure that the translation is smooth, readable and clear in meaning. The translator has gained a deeper understanding of science and literature after studying and summarizing the process and behavior of translation. At the same time, the translator also hopes that this translation practice report can provide some reference and inspiration for the translation of similar texts.
