This paper is an English-Chinese translation practice report, and the original text is selected from Chapter 15 and Chapter 16 of the book Public Health Perspectives on Depressive Disorders edited and published by Neil Cohen,an American medical doctor in 2017.This book recognizes depression as a major public health issue worldwide, one that is amenable to public health approaches to disease prevention.Chapter 15 elaborates various interventions for depression, emphasizing the public health significance of depression and its impact on overall health.Chapter16 describes the public health challenges of coping with depression in old age. This book is a medical and general information text, not a literary translation. As a variant of the popular science text, the popular medicine text is concise, rigorous, logical, and has the lexical and syntactic characteristics of the scientific and technological style. This translation practice report summarizes some skills and Chinese translation strategies applicable to the medical popularization text according to the characteristics of the medical popularization text, guided by the framework of comprehension, expression and adaptation, and based on the problems exposed by the translator. The translation of popular medical texts should master basic medical knowledge and have macro thinking in understanding the original meaning. In terms of expression,it is necessary to avoid inaccurate translation of terms,Europeanized Chinese, language incoherence, etc. In order to bring readers a better reading experience,we should flexibly use amplification、omission and reverse translation in the opposite of adaptation. |
