A Practice Report On English-Chinese Translation Of Geological Literature Based On The Framework Of “Comprehension,Expression,Adaptation”

The material selected for this translation project is a dissertation written in 2021 by Tiffany E.Justice of Portland State University,America.This practice report reviews the author’s translation practice,mainly using the "Comprehension,Expression,and Adaptation"(CEA)analytical framework proposed by Li Changshuan,supported by other translation theories and methods,to analyze the problems encountered in the translation process and how to solve them.This translation practice report is divided into five parts.The first part is the introduction,which introduces the background and content of the translation practice and the purpose of writing the report on the translation practice.The second section describes the translation process,including the preparation of the translation,the translation and the post-editing.The third section analyses the theoretical framework of CEA used in this paper At the level of comp rehension,the translator should comprehend the original text fully and accurately.At the level of expression,the translator should faithfully convey the meaning of the original text and communicate it to the target audience.At the level of adaptation,the translator should be familiar with the differences between the English and Chinese languages and choose appropriate adaptations to make the translation conform to Chinese expression habits.The fourth part is a case study.Based on the framework of "Comprehension,Expression,Adaptation",the problems encountered in the translation process are analyzed and solutions are proposed.In comprehension,the author not only understands the background knowledge of the geological field in depth but also the context.Contextual analysis is used to determine the meaning of words and sentence expressions.When expressing this,the translator can ensure that the translation is accurately expressed by consulting professionals and looking up information.When making adaptations,the translator must be familiar with Chinese expressions and use different adaptations so that the translation conforms to the Chinese expressions of the scientific and technical genre.The final section is a summary of this translation practice,containing insights into the translation of geological texts as well as a personal outlook.
