With the deepening of economic globalization, the development of many countries in the world is to achieve economic growth at the cost of destroying the environment, and over time, the problem of ecological pollution is particularly prominent. How to prevent pollution and protect the ecological environment has become a problem that must be solved nowadays. In recent years, the number of environmental science books at home and abroad is very considerable. As an important carrier for spreading science and culture, these books are also very valuable for the general Chinese people. Therefore, the importance of translating such texts is self-evident.In this report, parts of chapters 4 and 8 of Introduction to Environment,Biodiversity and Climate Change written by Navale Pandharinath are used as translation materials. The purpose of this study is to explore how the Skopos Theory can guide the translation practice of popular science texts. In the excerpts, the author used objective language to popularize a series of environmental problems and measures to deal with them, which is highly educational and popularized. However, how to present the specialized vocabulary and complex sentences of the original text to the Chinese readers in an easy-to-understand Chinese language, and how to realize the communicative function of the original text appropriately becomes the key and difficult point in the translation process. Therefore, the report explores the Chinese translation strategies and methods of environmental science texts from three levels: lexical, syntax and discourse, based on the three principles of Skopos Theory with a large number of examples in the process of practice. When dealing with specialized terms, the writer uses a variety of translation tools and compares the usage of different examples to determine the meaning of words. In addition, the writer flexibly deals with different word conversions to ensure that the information of the original text is properly conveyed. When dealing with long and difficult sentences, the writer uses methods such as splitting and amplification to ensure that the translation is logical and consistent with Chinese expression habits. This report intends to analyze the strategies of translating popular science texts into Chinese through the translation and study of this book, guided by the principles and methods of the Skopos Theory,so as to facilitate Chinese readers’ understanding of the latest ecological trends abroad, with a view to providing useful reference for translators of similar texts and hopefully providing some reference for the ecological sustainable development in China.
