The Study Of Wang Jinkang’s Science Fiction With Cosmic Themes

In 2011,renowned contemporary Chinese science fiction writer Wang Jinkang proposed the theory of "core science fiction" following the creation of a series of "cosmic-themed" science fiction,which is considered as the conscious literary practice of the core science fiction concept by the literary world.With Wang Jinkang’s "cosmic-themed science fiction" being the research subject,this thesis is going to analyze the connection between his fictional works and theoretical thought to grasp the growth trend of contemporary Chinese science fiction from a refreshing perspective in three aspects: content presentation,narrative art,and theoretical value.The thesis is consisted of the introduction part,the body part,and the conclusion part.Firstly,the introduction presents the process of Wang Jinkang’s more than 20 years of science fiction creation,the traits of his work in different eras and the brief explanation of the fundamental concept of science fiction.Secondly,the introduction shows the definition of the idea of science fiction with cosmic themes and the current researches of Wang Jinkang’s science fiction.Finally,the introduction illustrates the overall significance of this thesis.As for the main body part,the first chapter displays the contents of Wang Jinkang’s cosmic-themed novels.Science fiction originates from science culture,but it still belongs to a literary genre.Therefore,this chapter examines the literary nature of Wang Jinkang’s cosmic works from the perspectives of both theme and character,analyzing his continued focus on the theme of survival,his subliminal reflections on ethics,his constant imagination of a glorious China and the refinement of the characterization in his cosmic works.The second chapter discusses the narrative art and effects of Wang Jinkang’s cosmic science fiction through the construction of a rigorous narrative structure,the inheritance of traditional narrative techniques and the convergence of scientific and literary language combined with the theories related to narratology.The third chapter illustrates the creative values of Wang Jinkang’s cosmic science fiction.Based on the transcendence of the cosmic theme itself,it analyses the literary values of cosmic science fiction.Furthermore,the third chapter also argues the core science fiction regarded as the guiding theory of cosmic science fiction in the perspectives of the re-response to important debates in science fiction literature,a re-understanding of the science fiction function of science fiction and a re-thinking of the direction of science fiction development.The conclusion firstly summarizes the creation of Wang Jinkang’s science fiction and gives the definition of core science fiction.Secondly,it analyzes the limitations of his work with a critical eye and looks forward to the development of Chinese science fiction literature.As one of the leading science fiction writers of China’s new generation and a masterpiece of contemporary Chinese science fiction literature,Wang Jinkang’s creations have always kept pace with the times.Whether it is the formulation of the core science fiction concept or the choice of cosmic themes,what hidden behind them is the writer’s keen concern for the times and the development of science fiction.Through the core science fiction concept,the writer re-emphasizes the literary qualities of science fiction;as the main literary creation after the concept proposed,the creation of cosmic science fiction carries the profound philosophical thinking and humanistic concern of the "thinker" with the large amount of scientific knowledge radiating the light of scientific rationality.Wang Jinkang’s concepts and creation examines the possible development of contemporary Chinese science fiction.Focusing on his cosmic science fiction novels not only provide an accurate grasp of the creative characteristics of writers after the core science fiction concept,but also provide a more comprehensive understanding of the development trend and value of contemporary Chinese science fiction.
