| Given the decline in international activities during the COVID-19 pandemic,mock conference interpreting has become a major way for MTI students to practice interpreting.Therefore,under the arrangement of her supervisor,the author conducted a simulated consecutive interpreting of the Second World Maker Education Alliance Forum on December 19,2021,in which she bore the responsibility for the Chinese-English interpretation of the opening ceremony and the keynote speeches of three speakers.In this process,efforts were made to represent the real scenario of this meeting.Based on this practice,the author finds the following features of this task.First,the French speakers had strong accents and spoke very fast,and the phonetic challenges brought by the phonetic variants in French accent increased the difficulty in the interpreter’s comprehension of the information in the source language.Second,some speakers preferred to use loose sentences and colloquial expressions,which made their speeches lack logic and coherence.Third,redundant and repetitive expressions and even some irrelevant information occasionally appeared in some speakers’ speeches,which brought certain challenges to the interpreter in the phase of re-expression.In view of this,under the guidance of the Interpretive Theory of Translation,the author analyzes in detail the challenges she encountered during this simulated interpreting practice from the aspects of comprehension,expression,and adaptation by following Li Changshuan’s CEA(Comprehension,Expression and Adaptation)Framework,and summarizes the corresponding coping strategies.The author finds that interpreters can adapt to phonetic variants in advance through accent listening exercises before interpreting.In field interpreting,interpreters can make reasonable inferences based on the context and their background knowledge,and pay attention to the non-verbal information delivered by the speaker.If the sentences lack logic and coherence,interpreters can use the method of combination to reorganize the logic of the source language.In the face of repetitive or irrelevant information,interpreters can directly omit them.The author hopes to provide a reference for her fellow colleagues through the analysis of her interpreting process and hopes to improve the quality of her interpreting in the future. |
