Since the beginning of the 21 st century, the German "New Leipzig School" has been rising rapidly in the international art market and has gained great attention. The Neo-Leipzig School in Germany is an easel painting group, whose works are mostly created in the form of figurative narration, which is highly recognized by the western art world, especially the art market.Neo Rauch is one of the most important and popular German artists of the New Leipzig School.Neo Rauch has been living and working in Saxony,Leipzig,Germany since he was born.He has studied art under the rigorous teaching system of Leipzig Art Academy in East Germany, and has a solid modeling foundation. At the same time,he broke the tradition and formed a very unique painting style, which has influenced the contemporary painting art.The research objective of this paper is divided into three parts. The first part, based on the development process from the Old Leipzig School to the New Leipzig School, combined with the social and historical background of Germany at that time, makes an in-depth analysis of Neo Rauch’s learning experience, living environment and changes in social ideology, and studies the formation and development of his painting style. The second part focuses on analyzing the creation techniques of Neo Rauch’s paintings, including the juxtaposition layout of multidimensional space, repeated giant images, symbols and objects, and unplanned collage creation in his works,so as to analyze the meaning contained in his paintings and the content the artist wants to express. The third part briefly analyzes Neo Rauch’s painting concept, the utopian world he created by using figurative techniques, his interpretation of images, and the allegorical narrative structure and the extreme use of color in his creation, and brings some thoughts and enlightenment to the author’s subsequent creation.
