This is a report on the E-C translation practice of Egyptian Customs and Festivals.Under the trend of economic globalization,cross-cultural communication is increasing, and people are increasingly interested in learning about other different cultures.Egypt has a unique social culture and is full of mystery. The translation report aims to explore the translation strategies and methods to deal with the differences in cross-cultural background through case analysis. The original text is informative and exotic. The difficulties of translation lie in preserving cultural characteristics and helping the readers with cross-cultural background to understand the information of the text. Therefore, the translator chooses communicative translation theory and semantic translation theory created by Peter Newmark as guidance.Communicative translation is concerned with the target readers, while semantic translation is concerned with the charm of the original text.Under the guidance of Newmark’s translation theories, the translator adopts transliteration to preserve cultural characteristics. The translator adopts addition and annotation to compensate for required social and cultural background knowledge.Besides, the translator uses conversion and addition to make the translation correspond to Chinese expression habits. The translation practice is expected to make a modest contribution to the spread of Egyptian culture in the world and help to promote cultural exchanges. The translation is designed to help improve the cultural literacy of the readers. In addition,it is hoped that the report can provide some references for translators in the translating and processing of informative texts.
