Body Image Expression In The Works Of Contemporary Female Photographers

The body is one of the important carriers in expressing human culture,however,the soul and the body had been regarded as a binary opposition until the 19 th century,thus the value of the body was covered up.Although the body plays a very important role in philosophy,aesthetics,art and other fields,it has been blamed for its physiological characteristics.Plato,Descartes,Kant,Hegel and so on have inherited and carried forward the dualism of body and mind,and the body’s subjective characteristics have never been paid enough attention to.In contrast,it often exists as an object.With the development of The Times and social progress,the value of the body has become increasingly prominent.It was not until the 19 th century that the body began to appear as an independent research subject.Nietzsche,Foucault and others showed the perspective of the body,and philosophers began to explore the body again,which had been neglected for a long time.Along with the development of capitalism,consumerism is overwhelming,and the body has become an existence that could not be ignored by philosophers and artists.As the carrier of spirit and thought,the cultural and artistic expression in human society cannot be separated from the body.In contemporary art,the content and formal language of works usually involve the body element.At the same time,the body is also one of the important visual issues of contemporary photography.More and more contemporary female photographers take the body as a carrier which could interpret their own ideas.In the first chapter,the author retrieved relevant materials through literature research and summarized relevant theories.Through interdisciplinary research,the author interpreted contemporary photography works by citing philosophical and sociological perspectives on body theory and feminist theory.The second chapter combed the body images in art history and interpreted the transformation of female body in the course of art from the perspective of feminism.In the third chapter,the author compared the expression of female body by male and female photographers in contemporary photography works,taking contemporary female body themed photography works as research cases,conducting in-depth research and analyzing on representative works at home and abroad in six sections: gaze,real representation,self-exploration,politics,gender and race.Through combing the body phenomenon in contemporary female photography,this paper attempts to explore the body expression in contemporary female photography works.Meanwhile,by using case analysis,the author aimed to explore how artists face the body and use body elements for creation,interpret the value of their artistic creation,and understand the situation of body expression.
