Non-dialogue animation is a niche animation genre,but an important branch of artistic animation.Instead of conversing among characters,this type of animation relies entirely on character performances to convey emotions and story content.This paper summarizes the three types of animation performances that can be referred to and learned from by examining other forms of performing arts:mime,dance drama and silent film,and through the analysis of a large number of artistic animations,it is concluded that animation character performances play three main roles in the film:shaping the characters,expressing the characters’ emotions and explaining the storyline,and through the practice of the animated short film The Gift,which is created by the author,it summarizes the artistic effect achieved after combining the the theories and creations,and summarizes the artistic effect achieved after combining the theories and creations.Through the practice of the animated short film "The Gift" created by the author,the artistic effect achieved after combining the theory and creation is summarized,and it is hoped that the experience gained can provide a little support for similar creations in future.
