Understanding the factors that affect the residents’ willingness to protect wildlife is the premise to promote the protection work better. The protection of wild animals is the realistic requirement of ecological civilization construction and high-quality development. The realization of this goal can not only rely on personal consciousness, but also regulate and guide residents’ behavior through corresponding public policies. As a kind of public resources, wild animals are easy to face the phenomenon of "tragedy of public goods" due to the unrestrained consumption of residents. In order to avoid this phenomenon,in the process of protection and management, corresponding public policies should be formulated to regulate and guide the individual behavior of residents.Effective public policies should be based on the understanding of the influencing factors of residents’ willingness to protect wildlife. The outbreak of novel coronavirus pneumonia has caused unprecedented concern among the residents about animal protection.Compared with the previous period, the residents’ protection intention is very strong. Therefore,it is of great reference value for the formulation and promulgation of public policies and positive significance for the better development of wildlife protection to explore the relevant factors affecting residents’ willingness to protect wildlife under the background of the epidemic, especially the impact of the perceived risk of the epidemic and its path of action.Firstly, this paper reviews the research status of related fields at home and abroad. It is found that the existing studies have explored the influencing factors of wildlife protection, discussed the relationship between various epidemic situations and wildlife, and put forward strong suggestions on fasting and protecting wildlife. There are also many literatures on fasting, ways and methods to protect wild animals, and problems to be solved. In addition, some literatures explored the relationship between the perceived risk of epidemic situation and gender, religion and other factors. However, the quantitative research on the relationship between the perceived risk of epidemic situation and residents’ willingness to protect wildlife is relatively less, and the literature on the direct and indirect impact of the perceived risk of epidemic situation on Residents’ willingness to protect wildlife is rare.On the basis of the existing research results, this paper studies this issue, and seeks opportunities to promote the better development of wildlife protection in the epidemic crisis, which is also an innovation different from other studies. The present situation of residents’ willingness to protect wildlife was analyzed.Starting from combing the existing laws and regulations on wildlife protection and the current situation of wildlife protection in China, this paper analyzes the current situation of residents’ willingness to protect wildlife, and puts forward the existing problems and analyzes the reasons.Novel coronavirus pneumonia animal epidemic protection background is generally high.It is concluded that the factors affecting animal protection intention, especially the impact of epidemic risk perception, are very important. This paper is divided into two levels to study the residents’ willingness of wildlife protection under the background of epidemic situation. On the basis of theoretical analysis, hypothesis, model and variable selection, empirical analysis is carried out with 1031 valid questionnaire data from online survey.Novel coronavirus pneumonia is the first level of the study. The factors affecting animal protection willingness of residents under the background of new crown pneumonia epidemic are analyzed by factor analysis and ordinal multi Logistic regression analysis. The empirical results show that: the improvement of residents’ social identity of wildlife protection, the improvement of wildlife protection related knowledge level and the enhancement of epidemic risk perception have a significant positive impact on the enhancement of wildlife protection willingness. The second level is based on the regression analysis, using the structural equation model, the introduction of fasting wildlife compliance as an intermediary variable,to further explore the effect path of epidemic risk on Residents’ wildlife protection willingness. The empirical results verify the mediating role of the compliance of wild animals.Put forward policy recommendations to enhance the willingness of residents to protect wildlife. We should start from the legal, social, personal, background and other aspects to enhance the residents’ willingness of wildlife protection. At the legal level,it is necessary to gradually reconcile the contradiction between rights and obligations, appropriately increase positive incentives such as commendation and reward, and constantly strengthen the law enforcement of relevant protection policies;at the social level,it is necessary to correctly publicize the potential risks of eating game, strive to create the surrounding environment of fasting game, and strive to create the social identity of everyone’s protection;at the individual level,it is necessary to actively enhance the initiative of participating in protection At the background level,we should grasp the situation that the perceived risk of epidemic situation has a positive impact on Residents’ willingness to protect wild animals, seek a turning point in the crisis, and make residents always maintain a certain degree of risk perception through publicity and guidance,so as to promote the continuous enhancement of their willingness to protect wild animals.
