| Inter-cultural Communication was introduced into China after the Reform and Opening up and is working hard to an indigenous paradigm.The Contemporary New Confucianists① is an academic community closely related to Inter-cultural Communication and the Contemporary New Confucianism is also closely intertwined with Inter-cultural Communication.Exploring the Inter-cultural Communication Thoughts from the Contemporary New Confucianism is the common requirement of the indigenization of Inter-cultural Communication and the modernization of Confucianism.The academic circles usually divided the generations of the Contemporary New Confucianism based on the structure of "Four Groups in Three Generations".The Inter-cultural Communication Thoughts of each generation(group)of the Contemporary New Confucianism shows the consistent ideological quality with the characteristics of the times.As the representative of the first group in the first generation of the New Contemporary Confucianism,Liang Shu-ming holds the theory of "culture is determined by the Will" and the theory of "three-stage reappearance of culture" and he regards Inter-cultural Communication as "taking turns to sit on the throne"under the background of "joint cabinet formation" of the world culture as well as tries to put the tension of thoughts between the Inter-cultural replacement and Inter-cultural Communication.He Lin is an outstanding person of the second group in the first generation of the New Contemporary Confucianism.He uses his unique and rigorous the theory of "Body and Use of the Culture" as the basis of cultural philosophy to demonstrate his Inter-cultural Communication principle of "taking the Ideal as the Body and taking the Culture at all times and of all nations as Use" and he use it to criticize the common mistakes of the Inter-cultural Communication in modern China such as "Chinese Learning as the Essence and Western Learning for its Utility" and "Wholesale Westernization" However,He Lin really yearns for the "Communication Facing Human Culture Itself’.T’ang Chun-i,as the leader of the second generation of the New Contemporary Confucianism,inherited He Lin’s cultural views of the New Idealism and developed the cultural epistemology of "Ideal unified Culture" and defined the Inter-cultural Communication with "Empathy and Integration of Ideal".Based on the Cultural Ontology of the Empathy,T’ang constructed the "Great Harmony World" in which the cultures of all Nations feel each other to emphasize the integrity of the Inter-cultural Communication.Taking pity on the cultural reality of "Flowers and Fruits Floating",T’ang drafted the cultural declaration about "Chinese culture should be dominated by itself" and"full of respect and sympathy for Chinese culture" to highlight the subjectivity in the Inter-cultural Communication.But on the whole,it is lost in emptiness and abstraction,and unconsciously approaches extreme conservatism.Contrary to the conservative trend of its predecessors,the Inter-cultural Communication thoughts of the third generation of the New Contemporary Confucianism further turned to "All Inclusiveness of the World" in the Era of Dialogue among Civilizations.Among them,Liu Shu-hsien’s thoughts of "Principle is One,Manifestations are Many" is most powerful in dispelling the conflicts between globalization and localization as well as monism and pluralism of contemporary culture,the tension between tradition and modernity,and the gap between Chinese and Western Cultures.Therefore,Liu also became the master of the Inter-cultural Communication Thoughts of New Confucianism.In the diachronic dimension,the Inter-cultural Communication thoughts of the New Contemporary Confucianism show an increasingly open trend;in the synchronic dimension,the thoughts present the overall characteristics of Cultural Determinism,Idealism and the National Expression of Modernistic Pursuit.As far as its value is concerned,that is the ideological achievement of creatively transforming and innovatively developing Chinese excellent traditional culture and fully reflecting cultural self-consciousness and cultural self-confidence;in terms of the defects,the common fault of the New Contemporary Confucianism that "Inner Sage" is difficult to open up "Outer King" has brought a practical dilemma of "Practice cannot catch up with knowledge" in the Inter-cultural Communication. |
