In recent years,China’s investment in Indonesia has continued to increase,which has made the Chinese language more popular among Indonesians.Many schools offer Chinese language classes,the number of Chinese learners in Indonesia is always increasing.Indonesia is a nonChinese character circle country and uses alphabetic characters,many learners in Indonesia perceive that the most difficult thing to learn Chinese is Chinese characters.Under the epidemic situation,online teaching has become the only option for students to study.Under this new situation,Indonesian teachers and students will encounter some teaching problems or unsuitability.This article analyzes the existing problems in online elementary Chinese character teaching at Semarang National University,through classroom observation discusses the reasons for the problems.According to the analysis results,to solve problems,this article aims to apply the Chinese character-making method to the online elementary Chinese character teaching at Semarang National University.Tests before and after the teaching of the Chinese character-making method have revealed the actual changes in students’ cognitive ability of Chinese characters.After the completion of the Chinese character-making teaching,a questionnaire was issued to them to understand the students’ interest in the teaching of the Chinese character-making method,the degree of preference,the strength of learning motivation,and the psychological feeling of the teaching of the Chinese character-making method.Through the online analysis of teaching practice and test results,this study concluded that although the pictographic method is the first Chinese character-making method,it doesn’t represent the easiest method of Chinese character-making method that Indonesian students can easily be mastering.Indonesia is not a Chinese characters circle country,and the culture is very different from China,so the way people imagine objects is also very different.The cultural differences between the two countries make it difficult for Indonesian students for mastering the pictographic method.Different from the pictographic method,entering the teaching of the pictophonetic method,students can quickly understand the theory of picto-phonetic characters,and during the study practice,students can easily identify new characters.The final results of this study are concluded that teaching Chinese characters with the help of the theory of Chinese character-making method can increase students’ interest in learning Chinese characters;the practice of Chinese character-making method can improve the effectiveness of Chinese character practice;the teaching of Chinese character-making method is a preliminary attempt to online Chinese characters teaching.All these prove that the Chinese character-making method is effective in online elementary Chinese character teaching,and it is hoped that this teaching practice can provide some new experiences and ideas for the research on online Chinese character teaching in countries outside the Chinese character circle.
