| Whether overseas people understand Chinese culture can reflect the effect of Chinese culture’s external communication to a certain extent, the research on Chinese cultural cognition is mostly concentrated in developed countries and surrounding countries, and the research in African countries is relatively lacking.Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mali and China, the two countries have cooperated in economic, medical, military and cultural aspects, with the development of “the belt and road” and the establishment of China-Africa Cooperation Forum,China and Mali are also developing in a good direction. With the opening of Confucius Institutes and Confucius Classrooms, more and more Malian youth choose to learn Chinese, they also enhance their understanding of Chinese culture. How well do Malian young Chinese learners know and like Chinese culture? Will learners’ individual factors cause differences in cultural cognition? Will learners’ cognition of various cultural symbols affect each other? These problems are worthy of our further exploration and research. In view of this, based on cognitive theory and communication semiotics theory, this paper takes young Chinese learners in Confucius Institutes and Confucius Classrooms in Bamako,Mali as investigators, finds out the cognition of cultural symbols, and summarize the spread of Chinese culture in MaliThis paper mainly analyzes the results of the questionnaire survey, using the research methods of questionnaire survey, literature research, interview and comparative analysis. On the basis of previous studies, combined with relevant studies of domestic and foreign scholars,Chinese textbooks and interviews,51 representative Chinese cultural symbols are selected.According to the classification of cultural symbols in the cognitive survey of Chinese cultural symbols by the Capital Institute of cultural innovation and cultural communication engineering and the Institute of cultural innovation and communication of Beijing Normal University,Chinese cultural symbols are divided into six categories,A survey was conducted on Malian young Chinese learners. The survey results show that:Malian young Chinese learners’ cognition of Chinese cultural symbols focuses more on the material level.Individual factors such as Chinese learners’ age,Chinese level and Chinese learning time are basically positively correlated with Chinese cultural cognition. The respondents have a strong willingness to understand Chinese culture, but the channels of cultural cognition are lack of diversification, mainly focusing on Chinese teaching.According to the survey results,This study takes cultural teaching and cultural communication as the starting point, give some constructive suggestions for the dissemination and exchange of Chinese culture in Mali.About cultural communication,we should process the transmitted information to meet the cognitive habits of students, innovate and expand the mode of cultural communication, and focus on flexible communication. In culture teaching, teachers should constantly improve their teaching ability, take students’ needs as the guide, use a variety of teaching methods and carry out diverse cultural activities. It is hoped that the research in this paper can provide some references for Chinese teaching and cultural communication in Mali in the future, and also contribute to the research on the nationalization of overseas transmission of Chinese cultural symbols. |
