Yan Ji Ji Cheng is the record of the whole journey to the Qing Dynasty of Joseon envoy Park Sa-ho in the early 19th century.As an officer of head envoy,Park Sa-ho could observe various aspects of the Qing Dynasty in the early 19th century more freely and carefully.This paper took Yan Ji Ji Cheng as the research object,examined the image of the Qing Dynasty in it with the methodology of comparative literary imagery,and analyzed Park Sa-ho’s view on the Qing Dynasty on the basis of the examination.The research is conducive to a better understanding of the appearance of the Qing Dynasty in the early 19th century.It is also helpful to examine the connections and differences between the Joseon envoys’ views of China in the early 19th century and 18th century.Before formally investigating the image of the Qing Dynasty and Park Sa-ho’s view on it,the second chapter introduced Park Sa-ho’s family and life,his opportunity and route to Beijing,and the composition of Yan Ji Ji Cheng.The third chapter investigated the image of the Qing Dynasty in Yan Ji Ji Cheng into four parts:economy,politics,religion and folk culture,as well as national power.In Park Sa-ho’s opinion,the northern cities of the Qing Dynasty in the early 19th century were already very prosperous,and water transportation well-developed.He felt that the carving technology of the Qing Dynasty was very sophisticated,the court lady system was humanized,the management system of eliminate evilness ang eulogize kindness was also very advanced.In addition,Park Sa-ho was also very concerned about the culture of the Qing Dynasty.He pointed out that the people of the Qing Dynasty had diverse religious beliefs and rich cultural activities.But the images of the Qing Dynasty in Park Sa-ho’s eyes were not all positive.He also exposed the problems of the decline of frontier defense and national strength in the Qing Dynasty through careful observation of frontier fortresses and beacon towers.Finally,this paper analyzed Park Sa-ho’s view on the Qing Dynasty in the fourth chapter.Yan Ji Ji Cheng quoted many records of Park Ji-won and Kam Cheong-yip’s "Yan Xing Lu",and some views of Park Sa-ho and Park Ji-won can be said to be same.Park Sa-ho not only referred to the "Yan Xing Lu"of Park Ji-won and Kam Cheong-yip,that also was influenced by their northern learning ideas,advocating learning the advanced system of the Qing Dynasty.But Park Sa-ho did not mechanically follow the Northern Learning School’s view on the Qing Dynasty,instead he analyzed the reality of the Qing Dynasty more objectively and accurately based on the facts he saw or experienced.The fact that his description of the Qing Dynasty has both positive and negative sides can also prove his objective attitude.However,although Park Sa-ho viewed the Qing Dynasty from a more objective perspective,he did not depart from Zhu Zixue’s position.Therefore,he not only held a negative attitude towards the prevalence of Buddhism in the Qing Dynasty,also criticized the mainstream Yangming theory in the academic circle at that time.In addition,Park Sa-ho wrote an article Dan Luo Piao Hai Lu in Yan Ji Ji Cheng,and also made many descriptions of Jiangnan,which is also special.It can be seen from this that Jiangnan is a very special existence to Park Sa-ho.In addition,Park Sa-ho’s long for Jiangnan was influenced by the Joseon collective consciousness,his experience of being blocked from official employment just because he was son of a concubine,as well as many figures he admired who were born in Jiangnan.Therefore,Park Sa-ho regarded Jiangnan as a"Utopia" he longed for,symbolizing ease and freedom. |
