A research paper is one of the forms of presenting academic research achievements,as well as an important tool for communication and dissemination of research achievements, and its quality is also an important standard to measure the level of academic researches of a country.Translating foreign mainstream research paper writing textbooks plays an important role in improving the quality of English research paper writing in China. In this E-C translation practice, the translation object is excerpted from Research Papers. The author selects Chapters 5-7 for translation, with a total of 17,412 words, meeting the practical requirements for the thesis translation of Master of Translation.By analyzing the text type and its features, the author chooses Hans J.Vermeer’s Skopos Theory as the guidance, namely, the “skopos rule”,the“coherence rule” and the “fidelity rule” to complete the E-C translation of Research Papers(Chapters 5-7).In terms of terminology, the author analyzes and elaborates from several aspects like transplant and semantic extension based on the guidance of the “fidelity rule” and the “skopos rule”,in order to achieve the precise use of words; In terms of syntax, the author follows the “skopos rule”,the “fidelity rule” and the“coherence rule”,to carry out translation with techniques like semantic conversions, lexical amplifications and omissions, structural rebuilding of long sentences, etc.,and explores the applicability of the three rules to this translation practice; In terms of discourse,in order to ensure the logical rationality and structural consistency of the translation, the author focuses on the analysis of the influence of logical cohesion and sequential adjustment on enhancing discourse cohesion and semantic coherence according to the “skopos rule” and the “coherence rule”.The translation achieves the effect of smooth language, coherent structure and tight logic, which provides more concrete cases for academic text translation teaching. It is expected to provide valuable norms and standards for researchers writing English research papers, and also to provide references for translators who study the translation of paper writing textbooks in terms of translation techniques. |
