Name culture is not only an important part of Chinese traditional culture, but also a cultural teaching content that can not be ignored in international Chinese education.Overseas Chinese learners are the main teaching objects of international Chinese education. As cross-cultural messengers,it is necessary for international Chinese teachers and overseas Chinese learners to understand the cultural concepts and value orientations of different countries through the window of name.China has 56 ethnic groups, while Nigeria has more than 250 ethnic groups.Since the Confucius Institute at Nnamdi Azikewe University in Nigeria, the research object of the author,is located in the settlement of Igbo ethnic group, this paper sets the comparison object of the name culture of Chinese Han ethnic group as the Igbo ethnic group in Nigeria.By using the methods of literature research and comparative research, this paper compares the similarities and differences of name culture between the Chinese Han ethnic group and the Igbo ethnic group in Nigeria, and finds that there are obvious differences in the structure of names, the origin of surnames and the way of naming. At the same time, the author uses the methods of questionnaire and interview to analyze the data of 62 effective answers of middle and senior Chinese learners collected from the Confucius Institute at Nnamdi Azikewe University in Nigeria, combined with the interview results of teachers and students, and draws the following conclusions: due to the significant objective differences between Chinese and Nigerian name culture, the name culture cognition of middle and senior Chinese learners in Nigeria is not optimistic.Because there is no "generation culture" in Nigerian name culture, let alone the name structure in ancient China, students have a poor grasp of generation culture in names, the source of names, and the name structure in ancient China. The significant differences between Chinese and Nigerian name cultures make middle and advanced Chinese learners generally interested in name culture. In the culture teaching, the name culture teaching has not been paid attention to.Based on the objective differences between Chinese and Nigerian name cultures, the teaching of name culture should follow the teaching principles of cultural comparison, interactivity, interest and practicality.
