| With the advancement of psychological research and the expansion of interdisciplinary studies in China in recent years,the practice and research of psychological translation have also advanced fast,contributing to the huge growth of psychology in China.The translation of psychological materials and works not only introduces the latest foreign research results to professionals but also disseminates psychological treatment methods and understands the causes of mental illness.Despite the rapidly growing demand for translations of psychological materials,research on translations is still lagging.The purpose of this report is to explore the translation strategies of psychological science materials with the target readers in mind through the translation of foreign psychological materials.This translator selects chapters 11 and 12 of the book written by Louis John Cozzolino as translation practice for study.Under the guidance of Skopos Theory,the translator applies the three rules of Skopos Theory to analyze analogy,syntactic sentences,and terms of the psychological science texts and to explore the feasibility and guiding role of the theory in the translation.The report finds that the textual features of psychological science materials are divided into three main categories:the application of analogy,technical terms,and complex sentence structures.The translator employs several translation approaches for these three linguistic aspects.The goal of employing analogies in popular science materials is to make the knowledge more apparent to readers,thus the translator uses free translation and conversion strategies.The syntactic structures of the translated text need to follow the rules of Chinese,so the translator applies amplification and inversion to analyze and deal with long and difficult sentences according to the principle of coherence.To stay faithful and authentic to the original text,the translator uses literal translation,annotation,and parentheses to translate terms.Finally,under the guidance of Skopos Theory,the translator puts forward the translation strategy of psychological science materials,emphasizing reader-oriented and taking translation function as the criterion,and providing feasible text analysis methods and translation skills for the translation research and practice of popular science materials on the basis of text analysis. |
