On Structure-borrowing In The Translation Of Semi-technical Terms With Reference To Parallel Texts

Scientific and technical terms are conventional symbols that describe systematic knowledge in the field of science and technology.They are characterized by precision,professionalism,unity,and standardization.In recent years,the constant blending of science and technology among countries has made the translation of terms even more important.In the process of continuous development of science and technology,more and more common vocabularies have been given new professional meanings in various professional fields and beeome semi-technical terms,Different from pure scientifie and technical terms,semi-technical terms are transformed from common vocabularies.Such kind of words often cannot find the corresponding translation directly,so they often constitute the difficulty in the translation process.This paper takes the semi-technical terms in the English version:Protected Cultivation Technology Demonstration of Non-heading Chinese Cabbage as an example,to analyze their translation method and provide some translation methods of semi-technical terms.There are many studies talked about translation methods of semi-technical terms,which are mainly focused on "translation methods","translation principles","translation strategy",etc.However,the translation studies on semi-scientific and technical terms are rare.The translation studies on scientific and technical terms are mainly from Chinese to English,but English to Chinese are rarely studied.The author,based on the characteristies of the semi-technical terms,summarized three situations and corresponding procedures for semi-technical terms using structure-borrowing translation method.One is to use the word-formation of semi-technical terms to find parallel texts,and translates by matching sets.The second is that when it is impossible to use the word-formation structure for analysis,to find the most authoritative and suitable parallel texts to translate terms.The third is to analyse the semantics deeply,and use the divergent thinking,then translate with the aid of parallel texts.That is,to find the parallel texts on the basis of fully understanding the meanings of the terms,and obtain the required translations through the set of structure-borrowing translation methods.The structure-borrowing translation method with reference to parallel texts can be used to solve most of the difficulties of the translation of semi-technical terms,and make certain additions and improvements to the translation of semi-technical terms.
