| This translation practice report is based on the first 18 chapters of Holes written by American children’s writer--Louis Sachar. The story tells that Stanley Yelnats,a teenager,is wrongly convicted of stealing and sent to Camp Green Lake, where he spends every day digging holes in the dry, rocky lake bed under the heat and wind.Stanley gradually discovers that this is all because the warden has been secretly looking for the western Bandit’s hidden treasure buried beneath the riverbed. The treasure also seems to have a deep connection with Stanley’s family. Finally,Camp Green Lake is exposed, and the family feud’s curse is resolved. This text belongs to the category of children’s literature. The text is lively and interesting, and has a profound educational meaning and a clear audience. Many words and sentences in the text are worth studying. To ensure the accuracy of the translation, the translator combines the audience and the context of the text to reproduce the original style as much as possible in terms of linguistic style, emotional style, and mind style. At present, most scholars believe that style is translatable, but the ambiguity of style itself makes the reproduction of style in translation a big problem. In order to solve this problem,Liu Miqing,a famous translation theorist, put forward the style translation theory, which advocates that style is knowable and translatable. He classifies the style translation theory into formal markers and non-formal markers and puts forward three translation methods of corresponding, reconstructing and discoloring.Under the guidance of the five basic principles of style translation theory,he tries to restore the style of the original text as much as possible, providing guidance for style translation.Based on Liu Miqing’s style translation theory, this thesis studies the style of the original work of Holes. From the three aspects of lexical markers, syntactic markers and rhetorical markers of formal marks, through case analysis,it discusses how to achieve style reconstruction in translation.Through the analysis of the original formal markers, the translator knows and masters the style of the original meaning, and under the guidance of style translation principles, flexibly using corresponding, reconstructing and decolouring, realizing the reconstruction of the original style in the translation, and exploring the emotional attitude of the original author. The case analysis shows that the style translation theory provides a precise angle for translators to master the style of the original work and also provides specific means and principles for translators to reconstruct the style of the original work.In most cases,it can help translators identify, analyze and reproduce the concise and interesting style of the original work.At the same time, under the guidance of this theory,it solves the problem of lack of emotion, which previous scholars have not considered. Therefore, the theory of style translation has a vital guiding significance for the reconstruction of style in the translation of children’s literature and also provides a reference for other translations of children’s literature. |
