With the continuous deepening of the new curriculum reform and the introduction of the core quality of the subject,students’ comprehensive English ability has been paid more and more attention.The overall goal of the 2022 edition of the "English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education" clearly stipulates: "Develop language skills,cultivate cultural awareness,improve thinking quality,and improve learning ability".Among them,students’ reading and writing skills are not only relatively independent,but also complementary and inseparable,which is an important foundation for students’ comprehensive language ability.Primary school is the foundation stage of English education.Implementing the effective combination of reading and writing in primary school English education,guiding students to form writing ability in the process of reading and learning,and generating students’ disciplinary literacy has become a new challenge for primary School English teachers under the current educational background of the new era.This research takes "the combination of reading and writing in primary school English" as the research theme,and selects the students and teachers from 6 classes of senior grades of S primary school in Wuhan as the survey objects.The current situation and existing problems of grade reading and writing teaching.Combined with classroom observation,teacher interviews and teaching case analysis,the countermeasures and implementation steps of "promoting writing by reading" are summarized,which can provide reference for English teaching in the upper grades of primary schools.The structure of this paper is divided into the following parts:The introduction.It mainly briefly expounds the proposition,research significance and research methods of the problems,and sorts out the research status,development trend and existing problems at home and abroad through literature review.The first part is an overview of English teaching of "promoting writing by reading".It mainly focuses on the core literacy of English subject,the concept of "promoting writing by reading" and the theoretical basis of "promoting writing by reading",etc.,to provide a theoretical basis for this research.The second part is the investigation and analysis of the current situation of English reading and writing teaching in the upper grades of primary schools.Taking S primary school in Wuhan as an example,through student questionnaires and teacher interviews,using SPSS software to organize and analyze the collected survey data,trying to find out the current situation of reading and writing teaching in the upper grades of S primary school.The third part discusses the problems and reasons of English reading and writing teaching in the upper grades of primary schools.Through further sorting and analysis,it is found that the following problems exist in the teaching of reading and writing in the upper grades of primary schools: from the perspective of students’ "learning",students’ attitudes towards English writing are relatively negative,their English writing ability needs to be improved,and their English reading and writing habits are not good;In terms of "teaching",reading and writing are taught separately,students’ levels are uneven,teaching is difficult,the teaching operation of "promoting writing by reading" is not clear,and the cultivation of reading and writing habits is difficult to implement.The fourth part is the teaching strategy of "promoting writing by reading" based on the core literacy of the primary school English.Based on the classroom observation and recording and teaching case analysis of a teacher of S primary school of "promoting writing by reading",combined with the requirements of the core literacy of the English subject,the teaching strategies of "promoting writing by reading" are put forward,such as "adjusting the content of class hours and showing the quality of thinking" ”,“Heterogeneous learning within the group,enhance learning ability”,“Clarify teaching operation,improve language ability” and “Cultivate habit awareness,generate cultural character”,etc.;and extract the teaching operation steps of “promoting writing by reading”: Select reading materials”,“Organize reading framework”,“Discuss writing ideas”,“Develop classroom writing” and“Develop classroom evaluation”,etc.
