New words and annotations are important in the textbook and offer a foundation for vocabulary teaching and learning.It provides the quickest and most efficient approach for learners to learn vocabulary.This research analyzes the pros and disadvantages of the English annotations for new words in the comprehensive textbook Contemporary Chinese,volumes 1-4,and looks at how the annotations could be improved to be more scientifically correct.This research investigates the merits and disadvantages of the English annotation of Contemporary Chinese in terms of annotation form,annotation method,lexical annotation,and English annotation accuracy.The data analysis from this study demonstrates three strengths of annotation in Contemporary Chinese,including scientific word choice,the detailed lexical annotation for verbs and nouns,and useful information supplied by measure words annotation.The scientific word choice provides learners with information on the grammatical meaning of the words and assists them with getting a handle on the importance of the words in a complete manner;the annotation of measure words in English lists specific collocations and empowers students to get a handle on measure words better.These advantages deserve to be noted in other textbooks.On the other hand,the English annotations have a single format of annotation,poorly marked part of speech,erroneous English annotations,inadequate recognition of the annotations,and a lack of systematization.The research also looks at the causes of the issues,which are mostly caused by disparities in Chinese and English vocabulary,as well as the inappropriate conduct in the compilation process.The paper proposes to improve the English annotation in the textbook by enriching the form of annotation,improving the part of speech mark,focusing on the differences between Chinese and English vocabulary,strengthening the systematization of the textbook,providing a QR code for new words,and building a feedback platform based on the analysis of the problems and causes.It aims at improving the English annotation of vocabulary,so that accurate,specific,and differentiated annotation of vocabulary can be presented at the source so that learners can understand and master vocabulary to the fullest.
