Poetic Expression In Post-impressionism Landscape Paintings

Land is the ultimate destination of human spirit,while landscape painting is a meaningful form for artists to pursue the destination.Western landscape painting has experienced a long evolution in its development,from being loyal to objective realism to romanticism focusing on emotional expression,from impressionism focusing on light and color to post-impressionism focusing on artists’ subjective world.Regardless of the form of expression,landscape painting,as an extension of the land,is the most direct material connecting artists and nature.Heidegger reminded us in The Origin of the Work of Art that artistic works are open to us,and these open works contain some poetic features,which make people belong to the earth and thus enter the dwelling place.Post-impressionism,represented by Van Gogh,Cezanne and Gauguin,is the peak of subjective consciousness.They infuse their aesthetic feelings and experiences into it to form a truly independent aesthetic organism.How to interpret the poetry in these landscape paintings is the problem of this paper.Through research,it is found that when people pass through these works of art,they can see the blooming of life created by Van Gogh,which is the power generating from the depths of life;Seeing that the natural order created by Cezanne is the solid and eternal original order of the world;Seeing that Gauguin created the "hometown",it was the common spiritual home of all mankind at the beginning of primitive period.Artists create landscape paintings in contact with nature,and the closeness between landscape paintings and nature makes poetic nature in artistic works open to viewers.When these artistic works with the theme of scenery are opened to us,they create a state,because this state makes the world around them show a different kind of vitality.
