The Image Of Jiangnan In Modern Japanese Travel Notes(1862-1938)

Since the opening of the "Millennium Maru" route in 1862,many Japanese have traveled jiangnan with various purposes.With the change of Sino-Japanese relations,the scene of our country’s abjection has been completely exposed to the eyes of the world,especially the impact on the Hearts of the Japanese "Jiangnan".jiangnan image gradually split.Based on the typical texts and the clues of The Times,this paper analyzes the development and evolution of the image of Jiangnan from 1862 to 1938 by using the theory of imagology and post-colonialism.The thesis is divided into three parts: introduction,text and conclusion.The introduction traces back the image of Jiangnan in the history of literary and cultural exchanges between China and Japan in ancient times,and summarizes the research status of modern Japanese travel works at home and abroad.At the same time,this paper expounds the basis of topic selection and research ideas.The main body discusses from four aspects,which are the background of the modern Japanese intellectuals’ journey to The South of the Yangtze River,the various aspects of their images of the south of the Yangtze River,narrative strategy and cultural metaphor.The first chapter analyzes The Times and cultural background in which Japanese intellectuals chose to travel to Jiangnan,and at the same time concerns the influence of literary trend of thought and perspective change.The second chapter focuses on what kind of images of Jiangnan were created by Japanese in modern times,and analyzes the images of Jiangnan moving between classical texts and reality from three aspects: the images of sentient beings in Jiangnan,the features of Jiangnan,and the traditional literary and artistic features.The third chapter focuses on the analysis of how the modern Japanese scholars wrote jiangnan,the way of expression behind the narrative strategy and description content of writing Jiangnan,and reveals the role of the experience,intertextuality of travel notes and the symbolization of characters in the construction and transmission of jiangnan image.Chapter four discusses the cultural metaphor of jiangnan image.This paper explores the "jiangnan expression" hidden in "Chinese taste" and the conflict-torn psychology of modern Japanese intellectuals,and analyzes the important role of Jiangnan in the process of Japanese modernization.The conclusion is the summary of this thesis.It is found that under the influence of the established narrative mode of sinology classic texts and the control of powerful ideology,the modern Japanese scholars misread and misinterpret jiangnan in the process of imagining,experiencing and constructing jiangnan,and the image of Jiangnan becomes a kind of linguistic illusion.
