"Hao" and "Huai" are a pair of antonyms with symmetrical characteristics. The same verb is added in front of this pair of antonyms to form predicate-complement structures "V-hao" and "V-huai".Under the influence of antonyms "Hao" and "Huai",these two predicate-complement structures are usually considered to have an antonym symmetrical relationship, but in fact, not all "V-hao" and "V-huai" are symmetrical. To reduce learners’ errors of "V-hao" and "V-huai",firstly,this paper makes an ontological analysis of "V-hao" and "V-huai" from four aspects: semantics, frequency of utilization, syntax and verb features,to clarify their respective meanings, and to discuss whether "V-hao" and "V-huai" can form a symmetrical relationship from the aspects of word form and meaning: three situationsSecondly, taking Thai students from Chongqing University as the research object,we explore the errors made by Thai students because they don’t know the symmetrical relationship between "V-hao" and "V-huai",namely,improper collocation and mixed use.Through the analysis of errors,we find that the main causes of learners’ errors are negative transfer of mother tongue, generalization of target language, unreasonable communication strategies, unreasonable learning strategies and the influence of classroom teaching. Finally, based on the above problems,we put forward specific teaching strategies and suggestions from three aspects: teacher’s teaching, student’s learning and textbook compilation. We hope that through the analysis and research of this paper,we can provide some reference for the investigation of the symmetrical relationship between "V-hao" and "V-huai",and also provide useful teaching suggestions for teaching Chinese as a foreign language, causing us to reflect on related classroom teaching.
