The quality of education largely depends on the quality of teachers,and the key to the quality of teachers lies in teachers’ professional development.The new round of basic education curriculum reform takes the opening of English courses in primary school as an important content of education reform.The professional quality of rural primary school English teachers determines the quality of rural primary school English education to a certain extent,and even affects the overall quality of national primary school English education.There are many young English teachers in rural primary schools with weak professional foundation and few training opportunities.Their professional development has always been worrying.Therefore,there is an urgent need to study the specific difficulties,influencing factors and countermeasures faced by rural primary school English teachers in order to provide some reference for the professional development of rural primary school English teachers under the background of the new curriculum reform.As a first-line rural primary school English teacher in R County,Jiangsu Province,I mainly use the research methods of questionnaire and interview,take the rural primary school English teacher group and some grass-roots managers in R County,Jiangsu Province as the research object,and deeply study the plight and influencing factors of rural primary school English teachers’ professional development from the three dimensions of society,school and individual from the dual perspectives of English teachers and grass-roots managers,based on the research findings,countermeasures and suggestions are put forward.The results show that rural primary school English teachers have the following problems:1.Although they have certain educational beliefs,they do not have a strong sense of rural identity;2.Professional knowledge such as English teaching method knowledge,educational psychology knowledge,cultural knowledge of English speaking countries and basic knowledge of English language need to be further supplemented;3.Professional abilities such as oral English expression and cross-cultural communication ability,subject research and thesis writing ability,teaching design and organization ability need to be further improved;4.The degree of professional love is not high;5.Although there is a sense of professional development,there is a lack of practical action.From the results of questionnaires and interviews,many rural primary school English teachers are actually in a dilemma in terms of professional development.First of all,from the analysis of social factors,the reasons why rural primary school English teachers are facing difficulties in professional development are: Insufficient social attention,inadequate government guarantee,and the relevant systems of education authorities need to be improved.Secondly,from the analysis of school factors,the reasons why rural primary school English teachers face difficulties in professional development are: Heavy teaching tasks,complicated work,insufficient attention of school leaders,and the school management system needs to be improved.Finally,from the analysis of personal factors,the reasons for the difficulties faced by rural primary school English teachers in professional development are: Job burnout,lack of personal character,the need to take care of the family and cultivate children.On the basis of data analysis and discussion,this paper puts forward some countermeasures for the professional development of rural primary school English teachers in R County,Jiangsu Province.First of all,from the social level,the society should improve the social attention of English subjects,implement the government education priority guarantee mechanism,and improve the recruitment and training system of education authorities.Secondly,from the school level,schools should reduce the excessive burden of rural English teachers,pay attention to the professional development of rural English teachers,and improve the management system of rural primary schools.Finally,from the personal level of teachers,rural English teachers should update their educational ideas in reading and learning,improve their professional level in practical reflection,and cultivate people with neutral morality in their mission.
