Motivation is indispensable in the foreign language learning process,learners must have a strong desire to learn the language before they can achieve their learning goals.Therefore,learning motivation can not only promote students’ learning,but also motivate learners to make continuous efforts.In classroom teaching research,classroom feedback,as an important part of classroom interaction,has attracted more and more attention of researchers at home and abroad.So,what is the influence of different types of classroom feedback on students’ learning motivation? Does classroom feedback have significant influence on learners’ English learning motivation? This study mainly discusses the following three questions:(1)Are junior high school students more intrinsically or extrinsically motivated?(2)What types of classroom feedback are commonly used by junior high school English teachers?(3)Does teacher’s classroom feedback significantly affect students’ both intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation?In this study,four English teachers and 117 students from a junior high school in Xi’an,Shaanxi Province were investigated by classroom observation,questionnaire and interview.Through the collation and analysis of the collected data,the following conclusions are drawn: First of all,the research results of middle school students’ learning motivation show that students have stronger intrinsic motivation and weaker extrinsic motivation in English learning.Secondly,the frequency of English teachers’ classroom feedback shows that junior middle school English teachers use positive feedback more frequently than negative feedback.Finally,based on the results of questionnaires and interviews,the data collected indicates that teachers’ classroom feedback has a significant influence on students’ extrinsic motivation but insignificant influence on learners’ intrinsic motivation in English learning.The author puts forward some suggestions on English teaching and learning based on the results of the study,aiming at helping English teachers to use appropriate classroom feedback to stimulate students’ learning motivation.
