| Museums are important institutions for displaying regional culture and disseminating historical knowledge to the public.Nowadays, most museum exhibits are in the form of window displays, but the limited display space could not satisfy the users’ eagerness for more information. Therefore, the digital transformation of museums has become a hot spot for the development of museums in the post-epidemic era.Augmented Reality is a developing digital technology that superimposes virtual information in the real environment. It can provide exhibits with more dimension display space and more diverse display forms to satisfy the eagerness to do users in the new era of diverse and personal display. It is worth and important to promote the usage of AR applications in the field of museums. This thesis mainly adopted the method of Literature Analysis,Case Study, and Empirical Analysis.Using Unity as the development tool and ARKit as the underlying framework, the AR application of Guilin Museum was designed and developed, and the effect of its usage was evaluated. The main research contents of this thesis are as follows. The first part is analysis of the basic theory. This thesis adopted the method of Literature Analysis to classify AR applications in domestic and foreign museums from the functional aspect, and sort out the implementation principles and technical characteristics of the key technologies of Augmented Reality according to the technical aspect. Then design ideas and interaction modes of museum AR applications which are based on different functional types had been summarized. The second part is the design and development of AR applications. This thesis adopted the method of case study, regarding the Guilin Museum as an example, and selected Unity as the main development engine, and ARKit as the AR basic framework to design and develop AR application for Guilin Museum. The AR application consists of three modules."Plum Vase Charm" shows the dynamic effect of the vase pattern;"Nuo Mask" allows users to wear the virtual Nuo mask;and " Painting Tour Guide " allows virtual guides to explain tour spots.Besides, the design background and development process of each function were emphasized. The last part is empirical research and data analysis. This thesis used the method of Empirical Analysis to design questionnaires according to four dimensions including sensory experience, emotional experience, thinking experience and use intention.Furthermore, the usage result of the AR application was evaluated.By analyzing the practical results,it can be concluded that the AR application of Guilin Museum could satisfy the users’ eagerness for more information, improve the display diversity of collections, and provide users with positive and pleasant emotional experience. As a practical tool and propaganda advertisement,AR application of Guilin Museum has extensive application prospect in the process of museum digitization. This thesis has provided some experience for the application of Augmented Reality in the field of museum. |
