| The book The Selection of Literary Works, edited by Xiao Tong, has been prevalent since the Sui and Tang dynasties, and has become a significant subject of study, during which there were many people with explaining this book, and the most famous notes are Li Shan’s annotation and Wuchen’s annotation completed by Lu Yanji,Liu Liang,Zhang Xian,Lu Xiang, and Li Zhouhan. The Wenxuan Annotated by Liuchen was accomplished by the Song people combined Li Shan’s annotation and Wuchen’s annotation. It is spread to this day, which is very valuable in the work of the Tang Dynasty reserved very little today.Since the advent of The Wenxuan Annotated by Wuchen,it has led to a debate on the merits and disadvantages between Li Shan’s annotation and Wuchen’s annotation. In this paper,we compare the differences between Li Shan’s annotation and Wuchen’s annotation and analyze them through two levels, namely, diachronic and synchronic, which is not only beneficial to understand the characteristics of Li Shan’s annotation and Wuchen’s annotation, deepen the understanding of Wenxuan, but also useful to explore the path of development and changes in the meaning of words from the Wei,Jin and North-South Dynasties to the Tang Dynasty, and provide some valuable materials for the study of Chinese vocabulary history and philology. In this paper, taking the conversation poetry as examples,we compare the differences between Li Shan’s and Wuchen’s annotation and analyze the reasons for the differences. At the same time,we select one of the most widely circulated co-annotated texts, the Song edition of The Wenxuan Annotated by liuchen in the Hanfen House collection,as the base text.We divide the material on the difference in annotation into two parts:the first is the difference in the use of words,i.e.,the variants by annotations, which refers to the difference in the use of words between the text and the annotation. The co-annotated the Wenxuan was created by the Song people by combining the single-engraved version of Li Shan’s annotation and Wuchen’s annotation. The books are different,so there are different words used in the same position in the poem. The publisher chose one annotation as the main text and the other as a different text in the form of a annotation. So we summarize the variants of the annotation according to the morphological, phonological, and meaning characteristics of the words and phrases, and find that Li Shan’s annotation uses characters in the vulgar form, reflecting the complexity of the source of Li Shan’s annotation compared to that of Wuchen’s annotation;the second is the difference in interpretation,i.e.,the difference in interpretation between Li Shan’s annotation and Wuchen’s annotation. We summarize the causes of the differences in interpretation and discuss their characteristics and values in the form of examples. After collation,we found that there are three cases of different versions, but the contents of the annotations by Li Shan and Wuchen are the same;there are different versions, but the contents of the annotations by Li Shan and Wuchen are different;there are no different versions, but the contents of the annotations by Li Shan and Wuchen are different. The reasons for the differences include the differences in the use of words due to the development of the script, the differences in interpretation due to the different understanding of the poem, the differences in interpretation due to the mistakes in the interpretation of Li Shan’s or Wuchen’s annotation, and the differences in interpretation due to the citation of literature. Finally, looking at the section of the poems in the The Wenxuan Annotated by Liu Chen,we find that Li Shan’s annotation and the Wuchen’s annotation have different characteristics due to different purposes of interpretation : Li Shan focuses on the interpretation of event background and the richness and depth of the annotations, while five officials focuses on the convergence of idea s and the interpretation of emotions. They are complementary to each other and are the two sides of the same cohesive textual exegesis. The combined annotation of the six officials has influenced the form and characteristics, which the later annotation on the category of collected literary works, and has followed the trend of historical development. |
