| It is the year that marks the 40th anniversary of Suzhou city being approved as a national historical and cultural city.In the few decades,Suzhou has embarked on a unique road of protecting the famous city, and it is widely acknowledged that Suzhou has made remarkable achievements.Based on the holistic governance theory, this thesis was done to study the protection of Suzhou as a national historical and cultural city, which not only broadens the field of vision of Holistic Governance Research in theoretical research and provides local sample for the protection of national historical and cultural cities, but also puts forward suggestions on how to protect the ancient cities while ensuring economic and social development, and provides reference for the government’s decision-making to better carry out protection work in the future. With the methods of literature research and interview used, this thesis takes the protection of Suzhou as the study object, focuses on how to optimize the protection of Suzhou from the perspective of the holistic governance theory, and finds the problems, such as fragmented policies and regulations, scattered functions for protection, decentralized participation forces and isolation of protection and renewal.Hence,in terms of these problems that make the protection of Suzhou fall into a bottleneck, this thesis puts forward four ways:the integration of policies and regulations to promote the protection according to laws and regulations;coordination of administrative functions and powers and highlighting planning guidance;gathering various forces to form a joint force for protection;protection and renewal to promote overall coordination,in order to provide new ideas for optimizing the protection of Suzhou city. |
