This practice report is based on a consecutive mock interpretation of a simulated lecture themed “the Origin of Cultural Differences Between China and the West.” The author chose as the original material a lecture given by Wang Defeng,a professor of Philosophy at Fudan University and a teacher of the history of Marxist philosophy. The lecture presented the unique style and development of Chinese and Western cultures in a systematic and detailed way.It aims to comprehensively understand Chinese culture’s profoundness and study the difficulties of interpreting cultural texts.Based on the assessment of interpretation quality and the transcript of interpretation, the author finds that the misinterpretation in this simulation practice mainly manifests in the processing of redundant information, unclear logic relations, and cultural default.Accordingly, this report has put forward several strategies in response to misinterpretation and improving interpretation quality. This practice report first introduces the background of the task and the three stages of this interpretation, followed by the relevance of the interpretive theory to this practice.A detailed analysis of the well-selected examples in the mock interpretation based on the interpretive theory is presented, and the causes of misinterpretation, the signature problem of this mock practice, are pointed out.Under the guidance of the triangular model of the interpretive theory, the author resorts to interpretation methods and strategies of omission, conversion, logical reorganization, and integration to overcome the difficulties she has encountered. Finally, the author summarizes her major findings and points out the limitations of the report,in the hope that it could serve as useful reference for lecture interpretation of similar kind contributing to the promotion of intercultural communication simultaneously.
