The Pre-Qin(Paleolithic period-221 BC)Confucian Music Education Thought is an important part of Chinese traditional culture.“Music” originated in ancient times. After Zhougong made rituals and music, and Confucius introduced benevolence into the rituals and music, the system of rituals and music, and the Music Education Thought were gradually formed, which have influenced China’s traditional culture for thousands of years.By analyzing the traditional evolution of Music Education,it can be seen that the Music Education Thought contains cultural and spiritual connotations in temperament, aesthetics, ethics, morality, politics, etc.Basing on the basic connotations of “Music” and “Music Education” and the dialectical relationship between “music”and“rituals”,this thesis will analyze the transformation of Confucian music education from religious sacrifice in the ancient period to humanistic institutionalization in Zhou Dynasty(1046BC-256BC)and show that Confucian scholars such as Confucius put emphasis on “Music” educational function. The Music education played an important role in China’s ancient education system. At the individual level,“Music” is the main approach to cultivate the personality of a gentleman. At the social level,“Music” can change social customs, beautify human morality, reconcile social orders and cultivate social morality, thereby promoting political stability and national development. The final value pursuit of Confucian Music Education is to achieve harmony, which is reflected in the ideal personality of a gentleman who “holds the moderation and achieves harmony”,the aesthetic realm of “kindness and perfection” and the cosmic order of “the harmony of heaven and earth”.In conclusion, the Confucian Music Education Thought takes “moderation and harmony” as its principle and pursues the kindness and perfection.
