After the Wenchuan Earthquake in 2008,Sichuan’s tourism industry was plunged into darkness.Fortunately, people from all walks of life worked hard to rebuild Sichuan, bringing the tourism industry back to life. The English translation of research materials related to post-disaster reconstruction will help market Sichuan’s tourism to the international community of researchers and thus enable Sichuan’s tourism to “go global”.This translation report centers around Section 6.6 and Section 6.7 of Chapter 6 of a book which is entitled Strategies of Rebuilding Tourism Destinations in Sichuan Province After Wenchuan Earthquake. This part of the book mainly discusses the promotion and development strategies for Sichuan’s inbound tourism market.Guided by the principle of Selective Adaptation and Adaptive Selection, this report discusses how Eco-translatology is applied in guiding the translation of texts about tourism marketing strategies from linguistic, cultural and communicative dimensions. The theory of Eco-translatology employs a ecological means to analyze translation and its theoretical perspective is highly aligned with the text characteristics of this translation project. This translation report systematically presents a translation process under the guidance of Eco-translatology by combining the theory with specific translation cases.Specifically,at the linguistic dimension, this report discusses the C-E translation of Chinese paratactic sentences,non-subject sentences, repetitive information, and topic-prominent sentences. At the cultural dimension, this report mainly analyzes the C-E translation of ecological, material, social, religious and linguistic culture-specific items. At the communicative dimension, this report mainly describes the C-E translation of Chinese slogans and four-character idioms that appear in the original text, seeking to ensure that the translations of such idioms and slogans resonate with the target readers. Finally, the integration of the three dimension is also discussed, with a purpose of striking a chord with target readers.Through this translation project, the translator found that the explanatory power and vitality of a theory can only be reflected when it is applied in a real translation process.More importantly, the translator should be more concerned with how to achieve “selective adaptation and adaptive selection” and how to use the “three-dimensional” conversion method to guide translation. In the course of translation, the concept of translator-centeredness should be strictly followed to produce translations that best adapt to the translational eco-environment.To that end,the translator should flexibly choose translation strategies. In addition, the translator also found that the three dimensions of eco-translatology are often closely intertwined, and in some cases it is difficult to separate them completely. Therefore, all the three dimensions need to be integrated to achieve the harmony and unity of all factors in the translational eco-environment. |
