Liu Guan was a famous litterateur in the Yuan Dynasty and one of the four great Scholars in Yuan Dynasty.He was a calligrapher and a master of appreciation;He was an educator,with Song Lian,Wei Su and Dai Liang as his disciples.He is a neo-confucianist and a member of the Jinhua School.Liu Guan’s works contain rich aesthetic thoughts.This paper discusses Liu Guan’s aesthetic thought from four aspects.The first chapter discusses the background of Liu Guan’s thought.Influenced by the complex social and cultural background of Yuan Dynasty and the influence of Jinhua style school and other academic schools in Wuzhou,Liu Guan’s unique thought was formed.The second chapter focuses on Liu Guan’s literary and “Dao” view and poetry creation view.Liu Guan inherited the concept of "Wen and Dao one" in the early Yuan Dynasty,and followed the creation concept of the “Zong Jing Zheng Sheng”.Influenced by the School of Meritorious Deeds,he advocated that "the Dao is inseparable from the Qi" on the issue of "Dao" and "Qi",advocated the integration of meritorious deeds,academics and articles,and clearly put forward the view of "Ming Ti Shi Yong".His theory of temperament has the characteristics of compromise: on the one hand,Liu Guan continued the Confucian traditional view of "Shi Yuan Qing",advocated "Xing Qing Zhi Zheng";On the other hand,it advocates the progressive literary concept of "Shi Yi",thus advocating "Zi Ran Shi Xing".The third chapter mainly discusses Liu Guan’s aesthetic thought of calligraphy.Liu Guan transferred many teachers in the study of calligraphy,and learned from the Tang and Song Dynasties in calligraphy theory,so as to put forward the calligraphy views of "Qi Zheng Xiang Sheng" and "Lun Shu Gui Shen".The fourth chapter discusses Liu Guan’s aesthetic thought of personality.He takes "Yi" as the paradigm of his ideal personality and puts forward the concept of "righteousness for profit".He looked for the theoretical basis of personality aesthetics of "righteousness" in the metaphysical way and the cultivation method of personality conforming to "righteousness" in the physical dimension.He combined "propriety and justice" with "law" and advocated "justice" from the moral level and the legal level respectively.Liu Guan also attached great importance to the kinship and geographical connection of people in the patriarchal system,believed that the genealogy could give a sense of kindness,and advocated the cultivation of "righteousness" through the cultivation of genealogy.Therefore,Liu Guan’s thought is mainly Neo-Confucianism,and takes various schools at the same time.Therefore,Liu Guan’s poetry and calligraphy works also show complex and changeable characteristics.The conclusion sums up and summarizes the general characteristics of Liu Guan’s aesthetic thought: taking Neo-Confucianism as the background and other academic methods.And the scientific orientation of Liu Guan and his aesthetic thought.
