| At the end of the 1980s,Yu Qiuyu came into the eyes of readers through cultural prose.His innovative actions in prose writing brought a new trend to the development of prose at that time.However,as his popularity continues to rise,in addition to the attitude of praise and appreciation,there are also a lot of negative comments.At the same time,the increasing commercial activities of Yu Qiuyu also led to the rise of criticism from prose to the evaluation of his cultural personality,gradually forming a situation of extreme and polarized criticism,which eventually contributed to the Yu Qiuyu Phenomenon.The Yu Qiuyu Phenomenon has ended nearly twenty years ago,but as one of the cultural hotspots at the beginning of the 21st century,the emergence and development of the Yu Qiuyu Phenomenon have a typical transformational nature,which just provides an observational angle for the cultural development in the transitional period.Generally speaking,due to Yu Qiuyu constantly creates prose works and frequently participates in social and cultural activities,discussions on Yu Qiuyu’s works and related extension issues are basically uninterrupted,so the Yu Qiuyu Phenomenon has remained active from the 1990s to the 21st century status.Although the characters and events involved are intricate,there is always a clear main line in the evolution of the phenomenon,that is the outside world’s evaluation of Yu Qiuyu’s prose will continue to change over time.Along this line,we can find that Yu Qiuyu Phenomenon has mainly gone through three distinct stages of development:The first stage when evaluators showed a consistent attitude of approval towards prose.The second stage,criticism of the prose is frequent,with radical and words are sharp.In the third stage,the focus of criticism shifts from the prose to the evaluation of Yu Qiuyu’s cultural personality,thus covering up the evaluation of the prose.As a result,critical voices from all walks of life finally constitute the main connotation of Yu Qiuyu Phenomenon,including criticism of prose and value judgments on personality.As a product of the times,the reason why Yu Qiuyu Phenomenon can involve such a wide range of discussions is inseparable from the influence of social transformation,in which the reform and transformation of social thoughts and literary production mechanisms have played an irreplaceable role.In the 1990s,the Chinese intellectual circle was in a state of looking back at the homeland and pursuing traditions,and Yu Qiuyu’s cultural prose just met this spiritual need.As a scholar of drama theory,Yu Qiuyu uses beautiful language and dramatic effects as the shape of the text when writing.He fills the empty modern spirit by returning to history and finally achieves the call for the cultural mission of intellectuals.From this point of view,Yu Qiuyu’s prose not only broke through the writing tendency of previous proses that was limited to personal negative emotions but also cleverly fit the spiritual concerns of readers at that time,that is,how to find selfcognition and modern civilization in history.As a result,Yu Qiuyu’s prose has gained high attention in a short period.At the same time,the reform of periodicals and the marketization of literature provided an effective way for the dissemination of prose,further expanding the influence of Yu Qiuyu’s prose.As the number of readers of prose continues to increase,the outside world’s scrutiny of Yu Qiuyu’s prose continues to increase,which leads to the flaws in the prose being pointed out and even magnified,so the critical voices in the second stage exploded.Coupled with Yu Qiuyu’s continuous participation in social and cultural activities,it is difficult to reconcile the contradiction between the commercialized realistic subject and the prose lyrical subject with a sense of urgency and responsibility,Yu Qiuyu’s Cultural Personality is "disillusioned" in the cognition of readers,which led to the phenomenon of third stage focuses on attacking his real personality. |
