Each country has its own unique cultural heritage.Under the strategic opportunities of Chinese culture,such as the “Belt and Road” Initiative,we must constantly promote cultural self-confidence and self-improvement,and create a new glory of socialist culture.Throughout the past five thousand years,Chinese calligraphy culture has undoubtedly been witnessing and carrying the glorious history of the years.Therefore,understanding of Chinese calligraphy cultural terminologies not only helps to deepen the mastery of calligraphy skills,but also helps to promote the “going out” and “heating-up” of Chinese calligraphy culture,among which,the key link is to translate Chinese calligraphy cultural terminologies.This report is excerpted from Textbook for International Students(C-E Comparison):Introduction to Calligraphy and Ode to Xixia,aiming to translate and introduce Chinese calligraphy culture text information and spread Chinese calligraphy.Introduction to Calligraphy part mainly introduces the basic professional terminologies of Chinese calligraphy and terminologies of the form of calligraphy works.In the second part of the excerpt is Ode to Xixia,which covers the proper nouns of official script and calligraphy history,and occupies an important historical position in the history of Chinese calligraphy.It is easy to understand the original text,and the presentation of many terminologies provide good materials for us to understand,learn,and spread the basic knowledge of Chinese calligraphy.Sentences in the selected text is not difficult,and the difficulties mainly focus on three aspects: First,basic professional terminologies of Chinese calligraphy.Second,common sense terminologies of calligraphy works.Third,proper nouns of official script and calligraphy history.Through the analysis of the difficulties,the translator chooses Appiah’s thick translation theory as the guidance.The theory focuses on meeting the basic needs of readers by reducing cultural differences,and is highly applicable in the field of cultural exchange.Therefore,considering the difficulties encountered in the translation of text terminologies,this report conducts case analysis and discusses the deep output of the translation from two aspects:explicit annotation and implicit annotation.Depending on the characteristics of the corresponding text,different translation methods are adopted.Explicit annotations are discussed from five aspects: footnote,note in the text,endnote,transliteration annotation,illustration.Implicit annotations are discussed in four aspects: transliteration plus free translation,transliteration plus literal translation,interpretation and supplement translation.Finally,the translator summarizes the thick translation theory used for calligraphy works.It is important to note that this report has certain reference value in the translation of terminologies related to Chinese calligraphy cultural texts.
