As various modes participate in the process, interpreting becomes a significantly important part of cross-cultural communication. The introduction of multimodal discourse analysis is vital in facilitating interpreting practice. It requires accurate identification of multimodal devices employed in a specific interpreting scenario and accordingly deployed strategies based on priorities on various levels. The material chosen in this report is a keynote speech. In practice, the author discovered that the interpreter ought to consider texts, graphics on the slide show, and even gestures in some cases,as the keynote speech is facilitated by multimodal tools, figures and graphics, and interactions between the speaker and audiences. Moreover, the author also noticed that the interpreter’s output could be more concise. Its delivery could be more effective when combining the modals to add or delete some of its content.Recently, research on multimodal discourse analysis in interpreting has been restricted, and interpreting guided by such theory can not be regarded as common. The author selected the keynote speech as mock-interpreting material and abided by multi-modals discourse analysis. In the end,the author conducts a case analysis. Finally, the author finds that the pre-interpreting is adequate, and the output is more desirable.
