| The paper chooses the introduction and the first four chapters of The Anatomy of Anxiety:Understanding and Overcoming the Body’s Fear Response written by psychiatrist Ellen Vora as the source text. The book mainly introduces the manifestations of anxiety from two aspects of physiology and psychology, and tells us how to overcome anxiety. In the process of translation, translator encounters the following difficulties, such as the translation of professional words and psychological terms, unclear logical relationship, unclear reference and so on.These difficulties,if not handled properly, will bring difficulties to readers’ reading comprehension..In view of this, this report chooses the explicitation strategy to explore the application of this strategy in the E-C translation of psychological texts. The concept of explicitation was first put forward by the French scholars J.P.Vinay and J.Darbelnet in 1958.Explicitation is a common strategy in translation, which can clearly express the implicit information caused by the linguistic and cultural differences in the source text, making the translation more natural and easier to understand. At the same time, explicitation strategy emphasizes that the translated text should conform to the stylistic preference of the target language and avoid inauthentic expressions, which is conducive to improving the readability of psychological texts.Klaudy classified explicitation into obligatory explicitation, optional explicitation, pragmatic explicitation and translation-inherent explicitation.Since Klaudy fails to give an example of what translation-inherent explicitation is supposed to be,so it will not be discussed in this paper. For the translation of tenses, referents and long sentences, the translator achieves obligatory explicitation by specifying the tense, specifying the reference, dividing and restructuring the sentences. For the problems of fuzzy logical relation, sentence transformation and changes of part of speech, the translator realizes the optional explicitation by specifying the logical relationship, changing the sentence pattern and changing the part of speech. For the translation of English words and terms with English cultural background, the translator makes use of paraphrase, amplification and annotation to achieve pragmatic explicitation.Through translation and analysis,it is found that the strategy of explicitation can make the information implied in the original text more straightforward and easy to understand, the translation more fluent, conform to the expression habits of the target language, and help readers understand the meaning of the text.It is suitable for this psychological text. When translating such texts, the translator should determine the necessary or desirable information according to the type of explicitation, and then adopt specific translation techniques according to the characteristics of the text,so as to make the translation clear and understandable, and serves the target audience to the greatest extent. |
