This English-Chinese translation report is based on the translation of a clinical psychological report Understanding Psychosis and Schizophrenia.It was originally a typically clinical psychology study text,in accordance with the form of academic report,divided into four sections,and describing the diagnosis,evaluation,treatment and prevention of mental diseases.The paper argues that clinical psychological texts are distinguished from psychological works in the traditional sense,most of which are academic,serious in text features and regular in language style.While the linguistic features of clinical psychological texts tend to be more pragmatic.Taking the text of understanding psychosis and schizophrenia as an example,a series of utterance pieces are repeatedly presented in the original text,such as clients' cognition and description of self-symptoms,the chief complaints by the people contacting with diagnosis,and the report or referral of the accompanying person.In fact,these are often used in psychological diagnostic texts as the important expression and textual features.Considering the particularity of the text,the author innovatively takes the perspective of pragmatics for the translation of clinical psychology,which is more closely related to the form of language expression and the style of the original text.Therefore,this paper will focus on how adaptation theory guides the translation of clinical psychological texts then to realize the pragmatic equivalence,which is the focal point of this paper.Based on personal translation experiences in clinical psychological texts,the author analyzes in depth from the perspective of applying the adaptation theory and pragmatic equivalence,aiming at discussing about the use and function of contextual correlates of adaptability,structural objects of adaptability and pragmatic linguistic equivalence in translation,thus to explore the key points of lexical,syntactic and textual translation in clinical psychology texts.The author also employs words meaning extension,transferred negation,voice transformation,cohesion of sentence pattern,free translation and other translation skills to ensure the accurate transmission of the original information and text style.This report is composed of four chapters: the first chapter is the introduction of the translation project,including the source of the project,the research background,and the significance of the topic.The second chapter focuses on the theoretical basis and translation process of the report,including pragmatic equivalence and adaptation theory in pragmatic translation.The third chapter is a case study,which discusses the particularity of clinical psychological texts from lexical,syntactic and discourse level,and then summarizes the general translation strategies.The fourth chapter reaches the conclusion,involved in the translation practice experience and reflection of the problems.In the end,the author hopes this text translation of clinical psychology can enhance the general public understanding of the psychosis and schizophrenia,promoting the general knowledge of clinical psychology,and correcting people's prejudices and misunderstandings to mental illness,sequentially which will help people to keep the scientific and objective attitude on this common social psychological problem.
