Under the leadership of the CPC,our people have forged ahead as one.On the diplomatic front,we have broken new ground,overcome many difficulties.As President Xi Jinping has rightly stated,China is ever closer to the world’ s center stage.To enhance China’s capacity to participate in global events,we need a large number of foreign language professionals proficient in international rules and negotiations with global vision.In recent years,China has strengthened the building of Bachelor’s degree in Translation(BTI)and Master’s degree in Translation(MTI),which has strongly promoted the interpreters training.At the same time,interpreting contests at all levels are held every year in order to "promote learning through contests",thus enhancing the exchanges with other countries.Self-assessment of interpreting competence is one of the main ways to assess the competence of foreign-language professionals and test the results of interpreting teaching.According to the existing research,scholars believe that self-assessment can exert a positive influence on the improvement of interpreting quality in the translation circle.The existing research mainly focuses on the self-assessment of interpreters in practical interpreting activities and the self-assessment of students in teaching process.This research investigated the contestants’ self-assessment of their interpreting competence through questionnaire survey.Contestants in the 10 th All China Interpreting Contest from March 2021 to October 2021 were selected.The research mainly focused on the self-assessment of interpreting competence including interpreters’ languages,the knowledge required by interpreting activities,skills,and the professionalism.With SPSS Statistical Analysis Software,the self-assessment was analyzed from the perspectives of the contestants’ grade,major,experience of interpreting,level and numbers of interpreting contests.Finally,through data analysis,the author obtained contestants’ self-assessment of interpreting competence,explored the factors influencing their interpreting competence,and put forward specific suggestions for interpreting teaching.The result shows that,on the whole,the contestants’ professionalism is relatively strong while their strategies and languages are weak.Moreover,students’ participation in the interpreting contests for many numbers and reflection after the contests is conducive to the improvement of individual interpreting level.Therefore,more emphasis is placed on the teaching of students’ basic languages and skills,and students are encouraged to participate in interpreting contests to gain experience and improve their interpreting skills.
