A Report On The Interpreting Of Documentary Bangladesh:Here Needs Road And Bridge

Documentary is an expressive and direct TV art form,which records history,reflects life,and spreads knowledge through the integration of word,sound and picture.With the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative,many relative documentaries have been produced in China,to enhance the cultural exchanges between China and countries along the Road,and display China's overall strength.The well-known TV documentary Experiencing Belt and Road,special program of Homeland Dreamland,had been broadcast in China Central Televison-4 in 2017 which boasts high audience rating at home and abroad.It mainly introduces countries along Silk Road,their present conditions and connections with China.The author of this interpreting report selected one episode Bangladesh: Here Needs Road and Bridge and did sight translation practice,to explore the documentary interpreting effect assessment and corresponding techniques for improving the interpreting.In this interpreting practice and study,firstly,after making literature review and inducting features of documentary style and subtitles,inspired by Robin Setton's SI(simultaneous interpreting)processing model,the author deducted an improved documentary interpreting assessment model.Then under the guidance of three assessment levels of this assessment model,in the light of suggestions and comments the author collected from peers and Weibo users after the preliminary interpreting practice,the improved interpreting practice was implemented.Finally,case study of the interpreting practice was made in this report and relative interpreting techniques were concluded.In this practice report,it is found that:(1)As a crucial part of documentary language,time and space limits are the greatest limits in subtitle interpretation,to which interpreters should pay special attention.(2)The improved documentary interpreting assessment model contains the meaning assembly level,recognition-retrieval level and sensorimotor level,with corresponding targets of faithfulness,accuracy and fluency and respective influencing factors.(3)At the meaning assembly level,short-term memory and knowledge storage are concerned.Contextual integration and prediction can provide help in interpreting.(4)At the recognition-retrieval level,accuracy of linguistic and extra-linguistic factors need to be taken into consideration,especially appropriateness in documentary style.(5)At the sensorimotor level,to achieve fluent effects,coordination of picture,sound and subtitle,tone and speed adjustment are adopted.This interpreting project maintains that,in documentary interpreting,interpreters may consider all factors comprehensively and improve capabilities in all-round way.
