Shen Fu,the author of Six Records of a Floating Life,is a civilian born in a staff family. In the Six Records of a Floating Life,he describes the ordinary but interesting daily life of husband and wife and what he sees and hears when visiting various places. Therefore,to a certain extent,Six Records of a Floating Life truly reflects the social style of Jiangnan in the middle of the Qing Dynasty.Chen Yun is the key description object in the six chapters of floating life. Her gentle and intelligent personality has left a deep impression on people. From the perspective of social history,Chen Yun can be regarded as an epitome and representative of middle and lower class women in Jiangnan in the middle of the Qing Dynasty to a certain extent. In terms of education, the middle and lower class women in Jiangnan in the Qing Dynasty, represented by Chen Yun,were rudimentary, and their hair was mainly completed by their parents or their elders.Jiangnan families attached great importance to women’s education, which was directly related to the educational needs of their married children. In terms of family status, the middle and lower class women in Jiangnan in the Qing Dynasty represented by Chen Yun were still in a relatively weak position, and their father-in-law and mother-in-law occupied the most important voice in the family. In terms of travel, ordinary women in Jiangnan in the Qing Dynasty represented by Chen Yun had more travel opportunities, but they were mostly limited to the surrounding areas of their residence and were still obviously constrained by their female identity. It can be said that the middle and lower class women in Jiangnan in the middle of the Qing Dynasty represented by Chen Yun still showed the characteristics of being bound by traditional ethics, and the characteristics of the transformation from tradition to modern times are not clear.
