A Translation Report On COVID-19:The Global Environmental Health Experience (Chapter 6-8)

At the beginning of 2020,the COVID-19 has spread rapidly,causing widespread concern around the world.Environmental health has always been the focus of governments all over the word.The Chinese should learn the advanced experience from foreign environmental health work.Therefore the translator selected the chapter six,seven,eight from COVID-19: The Global Environmental Health Experience writen by Dr Chris Day as English-Chinese translation material which sums up the experience of foreign environmental health practitioners in the prevention of the COVID-19 and the reflection on the epidemic experience.It is of great help for the public to understand the international epidemic development and realize the importance of environmental health.The translator summarized problems encountered in the translation process and solutions to provide for future translations of such texts.Chapter 6 of this book is a brief introduction of the organizations that can help environmental health practitioners in the world,including professional organizations,local organizations and academic institutions.Chapter 7 is concerned with the reflections on the measures taken during the epidemic,and the expose environmental health problems with underlying inequalities.Chapter 8 focuses on lessons learned from the COVID-19 and how to strengthen environmental health practitioners going forward.This text belongs to the public health text,in which there are many long sentences and complex sentences with strong logic.When translating,the translator should analyze the sentence structure and clearly convey the original text.This report has four chapters: introduction,translation process,case analysis and conclusion.The introduction section gives a general description of the translation task,including the background and significance of the task.The translation process section includes three stages: pre-translation,initial-translation and post-translation.The case analysis mainly illustrates the main problems encountered in translation practice,which are divided into three levels: lexical and syntactic,and briefly describs the solutions adopted by the translator.For lexical,the translator adopts conversion of word class and addition to solve the problem about word expression in Chinese;At the syntactic level,the translator mainly talks about translating compound sentences and adopts the methods of division,inversion and synthesis to increase readability.Finally,in the conclusion part,the translator makes a summary about the experience and shortcomings of the translation report,and determines the direction,hoping to become a qualified translator in the future.
