Abstract/Summary:
Chinese opera has been existing for 800 years and has a wide variety.Qinqiang,as a representative of Chinese local opera,is listed as a national material and cultural heritage.Qinqiang originated in Shaanxi and Gansu,and is still active and popular in the five northwest provinces.Its lyrics have strong translation research value.However,at present,the research on Qinqiang only stays in the creation,protection and revitalization of the script,and few scholars carry out the translation of Qinqiang script.Nowadays,with China’s economic and social development,cultural exchanges between regions and countries have become more and more frequent,.This is both an opportunity and a challenge for Shaanxi local traditional culture,and Qinqiang is no exception.In particular,the translation of Qinqiang is of great practical significance for Qinqiang to open the door to the domestic and foreign markets.Skopos theory was put forward by German functionalist translation theorists Katharina Reiss and Hans Vermeer,Justa Holz Mantari and Nord made further development and improvement.Its core view is that the purpose of translation determines the method of translation,that is,"the result determines the method".Skopos theory is characterized by skopos rule,coherence rule and fidelity rule.The proposal and development of Skopos theory have brought great influence to the translation circle.It is of great guiding significance for the translation practice of traditional cultural texts that not only transmit cultural information,but also promote international communication.This translation practice report studies the translation practice of Qinqiang from the perspective of Skopos theory.The translator analyzes it from the lexical level,syntactic level and textual level,systematically discusses the common problems in the English translation of Qinqiang under the guidance of Skopos theory,and puts forward the corresponding translation methods.In the process of translation,the translator determines the translation strategies and methods under the guidance of the three rules of Skopos theory.First of all,from the perspective of vocabulary,the vocabulary of the text has typical Chinese traditional cultural characteristics and a large number of culture loaded words,many of which have no corresponding words in English.Therefore,translators need to translate flexibly,so as to achieve the purpose of disseminating the connotation and social phenomena reflected in the play.Secondly,in terms of syntax,the lyrics are catchy,the form of lyrics rhymes and has a strong sense of rhythm.It is necessary to use the three rules of Skopos Theory to complement each other and promote the smoothness,continuity and faithfulness of the sentences.Finally,at the textual level,Zhou Ren Returns Home’s contains many dialogues and monologues.They should be translated according to the image of the characters and the content of speaking,which is consistent with the focus of the source text.In doing so,the quality of translation could be improved and the spread of Qingqiang could be realized.
