This translation text is selected from Chapter 5 of Employment Law in a Nutshell(Fourth Edition),an American legal textbook, which mainly introduces the safety-related issues like the prevention and compensation of damages, with many specific cases, laws and regulations related to employment law.As we all know that law is very important to a country, and employment law is an important part of the construction of the rule of law in our country. It not only regulates the employment relationship, protects the rights of workers, but also clarifies the legal responsibilities of employers.Since its promulgation in 1994,it has undergone continuous revision and improvement, but there are still shortcomings. Therefore, although China and the United States belong to different legal systems, the relevant western laws are still worthy of reference and study by Chinese legal workers to some extent. In this paper, the author mainly adopts the theory of text typology proposed by Reiss, the representative of German translation function theory, combined with the six principles of legal translation proposed by Li Kexing as the guiding theory of this translation practice, and discusses the important and difficult problems in legal translation from the levels of lexis, syntax and discourse, and analyzes and summarizes the experience and skills used in it.Through this translation practice, the author found that it is not easy to do legal translation well.In order to obtain a qualified translation, legal translation not only requires the translator to have proficient bilingual conversion ability, but also requires the translator to have an understanding of two different legal systems. The author hopes that through this translation practice,on the one hand,it can provide some reference for people who want to study or engage in legal translation in the future;on the other hand, the author hopes to promote the development of relevant laws in China.
