Dai Benxiao(1621-1693)was a painter who lived in the late Ming and early Qing Dynasties and was a major painter of the Xin ’an School and Huangshan School. In the first half of his life,he hid himself in remote valleys, and in the second half of his life,he traveled all over the world with thirsty pens to write about nature, creating a profound artistic conception. The landscapes he painted were cold and barren. To dry pen thirsty ink to write Canggu meaning,to achieve the stroke can describe the mind.Dai Benxiao went to Mount Huashan in the spring of the twenty-second year of Yongli(1668).It took him about four months to travel to the West Mountain and sketch, and he created the Book of Twelve Views of Huayue, which was Dai Benxiao’s early work of writing "True Mountain".During his trip to Mount Huashan,Dai Benxiao communicated with many literati and painters, and his painting thought and ink spirit originated from the Book of Twelve Views of Mount Huashan. In this paper,Dai Benxiao’s journey to Huashan Mountain as the entry point, combined with Dai Benxiao’s relevant poetry manuscript analysis of Dai Benxiao’s life profile, explore his scholar spirit and the source of painting thought. In addition, through the related historical materials such as the title, inscriptions and postscripts of the Album of Twelve Views of Huayue, this paper retraces Dai Benxiao’s tour route.Collect relevant clues about Dai Benxiao’s interaction with his friends during his trip to Mount Huashan, and analyze Dai Benxiao’s feelings and spiritual world from his poems. Finally, the paper discusses and proves that Dai Benxiao’s creation of this trip to Huashan Mountain is a milestone of Dai Benxiao’s early sketching period.Dai Benxiao and Qian Jiang followed the same vein, and proposed such painting ideas as "outside the six Methods","there is not much to gain from the six methods" and "poetry is true mountain".
