| The development of first-person documentaries can be traced back to the early20 th century when documentary filmmakers began to experiment with more subjective techniques. It wasn’t until the 1960 s with the advent of news cameras and portable audio recording devices that first-person documentaries began to gain popularity. The first-person narrative style is often used in personalized and family-oriented documentaries, which express a greater sense of closeness and are more conducive to building a connection with the audience, making them more engaging. In recent years, with the advancement of digital technology and the development of social media, the first-person narrative documentary mode has also developed, and the range of subjects has expanded beyond the personalized and family-oriented levels to public and social issues. However, due to the limitations of its narrative style, the shift to public topics often weakens the objectivity of the events depicted. This paper explores how first-person documentaries can break through their inherent limitations through creative techniques, using the graduation project Cat Inn as an example, and how to organically integrate the more personalized narrative style into public social issues. The article is mainly divided into three parts: the first part sorts out and explores the concept, classification, and creative characteristics of first-person documentary films;the second part mainly analyzes the creative techniques of first-person documentary films through classic cases, elaborating on subjectivity, confessional narration,audio-visual language application, and implicit authorship from four perspectives; The third part starts from the creative level, mainly analyzing the improvements in the creative techniques of the graduation work Cat Inn and exploring how to organically integrate a more personalized narrative style into public social topics through the analysis and exploration of first-person documentary film techniques in practice. |
