The Situational Approach is a teaching method based on the development of oral language skills and emphasizes the basic structure of the target language through meaningful situations,which was developed in England in the 1920 s and 1930 s.This method emphasizes oral language,listening and speaking before reading and writing,and the acquisition of the target language in natural situations.Dewey,the founder of pragmatism,proposed that "situation" should be the first element of the teaching method,and Firth,a British linguist,believed that "language learning should be combined with certain situations,and only through the interaction between language and situations will the mastery of language be deepened.Therefore,it is important to apply the situational teaching method to the teaching of intermediate Chinese as a foreign language.Based on previous researches,this paper takes the international Chinese students in the2019 undergraduate class of Henan University as the research object,and uses classroom observation,literature research,comparative analysis and inductive method to study and explore the application of the situational teaching method to an integrated intermediate Chinese class,taking lesson 15,“Green Roof ”,of Developing Chinese-Intermediate Integrated I(2nd edition)as an example.This paper is divided into six parts,which are organized as follows:The first chapter is the introduction,which introduces the background of this paper and the significance of the selected topic,reviews the current research status of situational teaching method,intermediate integrated class for foreigners and online teaching of Chinese as a foreign language,and finally explains the research method of this paper.The second chapter is an analysis of the connotation,principles and theoretical foundations of the situational approach and its feasibility of application to a comprehensive intermediate Chinese class.The third chapter is the analysis of relevant elements of instructional design,including the five major aspects of teaching environment,teaching objects,teaching staff,teaching materials and teaching platform.The fourth chapter is the specific content and process arrangement for teaching "Green Roof" online.The fifth chapter is for teaching evaluation and reflection,summarizing the strengths and weaknesses of this teaching design,and making relevant suggestions.Finally,there are concluding remarks,mainly to sort out and summarize this instructional design,and to present the outlook.
