The New Fourth Army was an important armed force during the Anti-Japanese War,known as the "New Fourth Army of the National Revolutionary Army",which was formed by guerrilla forces fighting in eight southern provinces(Jiangxi,Fujian,Zhejiang,Anhui,Henan,Hebei,Hunan,and Guangdong)in accordance with the Second Nationalist-Communist Cooperation Agreement reached between the two parties in October 1937.The New Fourth Army lasted nine years and four months until January 1947,when its number was changed to include the Chinese People’s Liberation Army.Zhejiang area is one of the eight provinces where the New Fourth Army was more active in combat activities,and the geographical area involved is divided into three areas,one is the southern Zhejiang area: in February 1935,the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army was formed on the basis of the breakout troops of the Tenth Red Army Corps to gradually open up the southern Zhejiang base area,including Lishui,Wenzhou,Taizhou,Jinhua,Quzhou,Shaoxing and other places,the unit was later included in the official New Fourth Army units;the second is the eastern Zhejiang area: after the 1941 South Anhui Incident,the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China began to gradually open up in eastern Zhejiang anti-Japanese base areas,including three north(Yuyao,Cixi,Zhenhai three counties north of the Yao River)four basic areas of Siming,Jinxiao,Songhu and three east anti-Japanese guerrilla area(Yin County,Fenghua,Zhenhai three counties in the east and Dinghai County);third is the western Zhejiang area: in 1944,the 16 th Brigade of the New Fourth Army came to the western Zhejiang gradually open up the western Zhejiang anti-Japanese Base area,including the Qiantang River,Fuchun River to the north and west of Changxing(that year belongs to the leadership of southern Jiangsu)Anji,Xiaofeng,Wuxing,Guangnan(now belongs to Anhui Guangde County),Wukang,Deqing,Lin’an,Yu Qian,Yuhang,Fuyang and most of the 11 counties.August 1945,the victory of the war against Japan,in October,according to the party’s strategic deployment adjustment,the New Fourth Army units in the Zhejiang region began to gradually withdraw north,included in the the ranks of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army.At that time,the musical and cultural construction of the New Fourth Army in Zhejiang developed gradually along with the growth of the army,producing a large number of songs,dramas and operatic works,enriching the connotation of the new democratic culture with colorful cultural and artistic life and various forms of education for party and government cadres and the public,and playing an important role in the victory of the anti-Japanese war.This paper compares the development of the music culture of the New Fourth Army in Zhejiang and the events involved,collects more than two hundred relevant music works,and considers the establishment of the New Fourth Army and its music culture development,the establishment of music institutions and associations,the analysis of music creation,and the historical value and contemporary significance of music works.The music culture of the New Fourth Army in Zhejiang is an important part of the red music culture of China during the war period,and is a page of great historical and artistic value in the history of modern Chinese music.The study of the music of the New Fourth Army in Zhejiang is not only an inheritance and promotion of the spirit of the Iron Army of the New Fourth Army,but also a supplement to the theoretical study of the music culture of the New Fourth Army.
