A Study On Euphemism Negation Response Of The Contemporary Chinese

Euphemism negation response is a kind of linguistic phenomenon in discourse,which means to express the negative or opposing response attitude in a euphemistic way to the other person in the process of communication.The study of euphemism negation response plays an important role in promoting communication effectively.This paper will be elaborated from the following parts:Chapter One is an introduction.This dissertation’s research object and significance are the main focus of this chapter,with a summary of the current research status from three perspectives: "euphemism" research,"negative" research,and "response structure" research.The research theory,methods,corpus sources,potential innovation points and shortcomings are all presented,and the scope and importance of the study are determined.The second chapter describes the forms and categories of the response system.This chapter classifies and generalizes the euphemistic negation response in form and summarizes their characteristics.In terms of categories,they can be divided into: 1)Words;2)Solidifying phrases and phrases;3)Solidifying clauses.The subclasses can be further summarized according to different formal characteristics.Secondly,we discuss the nature of the euphemism negation response.In terms of nature,euphemism negation response has subjectivity,negative tendency and flexibility.In addition,the structure of euphemism negation response is analyzed,including the euphemism response,the prelingual discourse and the subsequent discourse.According to the different sentence patterns,the prelingual discourse can be divided into question pattern of prelingual discourse,statement pattern of prelingual discourse and exclamation pattern of prelingual discourse.According to the relation between the response and the subsequent discourse,the relationship between the response and the subsequent discourse can be divided into the following types: 1)interpretation;2Judging;3)Evaluation.The third chapter analyzes the specific cases of euphemistic negation response.This chapter selects "Bu Yi Ding" and "Bu Jian De" for comparison from the euphemistic negation response with the negative word "Bu".Firstly,it compares the similarities and differences between "Bu Yi Ding" and "Bu Jian De" from the semantic,syntactic and pragmatic perspectives."Bu Yi Ding" and "Bu Jian De" can sometimes be interpreted to each other semantically,indicating that they have the similarity semantically,but they can sometimes not be used interchangeably in practical application,indicating that they are also different semantically.At the same time,the syntactic environment of "Bu Yi Ding" and "Bu Jian De" is analyzed and compared.There are differences between the two when they are used together with modal words and adverbs,which indicates that their usage is not exactly the same.Finally,"Bu Yi Ding" and "Bu Jian De" differ in the degree of negation,the tone of negation and the strength of subjectivity.In the fourth chapter,we compare the two fossilized structures of "Na Li(Er)De Hua" and "Hua Shi Zhe Me Shuo" and analyze their similarities and differences from semantic,syntactic and pragmatic aspects.Although both "Na Li(Er)De Hua" and "Hua Shi Zhe Me Shuo" are euphemistic negations,their semantics and syntactic structure are different."Na Li(Er)De Hua" can be located at the beginning and middle of the turn,while "Hua Shi Zhe Me Shuo" is generally only located at the beginning of the turn.In addition to the differences in syntax and semantics,the pragmatic environment,the way of expressing negation and the stylistic color are also different.Chapter five discusses the pragmatic functions of euphemistic negation response.Its pragmatic function mainly includes discourse function and expression function.In terms of textual function,it can be divided into cohesive function and turn function.The connecting function includes anaphora and ellipsis,and the function of turn includes turn continuation,turn transition,and turn termination.The function of expression is mainly examined from three aspects: euphemism effect,interpersonal function and conflict alleviation.The euphemism effect can be realized through two ways: self-speculating and reinforcing information.The interpersonal function is due to the subjectivity of the speaker in the use of the negative response,which can reflect the mood of the speaker,such as discontent,relief,self-deprecation and reproach.The conflict is alleviated because the negative response can shift the focus of the topic and maintain the communicative harmony.Final chapter is Conclusion.To summarize the full text and point out shortcomings.
